My stay at Lainston House Hotel, Winchester

Me again Paul!

How could I resist that great idea of yours to take a luxury spa break at a SLH hotel in the UK? I couldn’t. I’ve just immersed myself in absolute Spa bliss for a couple of days in a stylish boutique hotel in the Cotswolds. So revitalized was I that I urgently needed to expend some of my surplus energy!

So… surprise, surprise – here I am in Winchester at charming Lainston House Hotel, a gorgeous 17th century manor house set in acres of gardens and woodland with a mile-long avenue of ancient lime trees. There are loads of things to do here, especially (I discovered) for kids during school half-term holidays. This, dear Paul, is an idyllic UK hotel for family holidays – so I’ve already told my sister (remember Claire? You had a soft spot for her once I remember!) and she’s planning to bring her brood of four here during the next school holidays as Lainston House is an incredibly family-friendly UK hotel.

Lucky parents – apparently kids stayed free during the recent school holiday. Even luckier kids – I was told the hotel has fabulous programmes for children including a falconer (when hawks, eagles and owls sour over the grounds), plus entertainment in a dedicated games room.

Magnificent views at Lainston House Hotel – Winchester, UK

As for me, I’ve been exploring the Winchester area – walking for miles in The New Forest, and visiting beautiful Winchester Cathedral where history oozes from every nook and cranny. There’s a gym at Lainston House Hotel too, plus tennis, croquet, boules and archery, as well as fly fishing (with a ghillie if you want), clay pigeon shooting, and falconry (some activities need to be booked in advance).

Mention of the gym reminds me I need to go for a good workout to help make room for dinner tonight… food here is absolutely divine. Not only has the Chef, Andy MacKenzie, just been named Hampshire Chef of the Year for the second year running, but he and his team have been awarded three rosettes for their creative, thoughtful and tasty cuisine. Mmm! I can vouch for it.

No more news at the mo. Let’s catch up at one of the SLH London hotels when I get back from the country?

Love Melissa
