Aaaaah SUMMER TIME! As I sit on my sun lounger with my toe in the pool, gazing up at swaying palms and the blue, blue sky, I think to myself…WHY do I live in London!?
I’m reporting from The Pillars Hotel in Fort Lauderdale, Florida to be precise… (how did you know Paul!) where it really is tropical. I hear the weather in London is not so grim as last week, but boy am I pleased to be here!
The hotel is right up my street. It feels very much like a private home, being a plantation-style house with just 18 rooms, and has the personal service to match. It’s literally minutes from the beach and has gorgeous waterway views – perfect for spotting attractive millionaires cruise past on their yachts from behind your Ray Bans. I have whiled away many hours *day dreaming* in this spot!
If you can tear yourself away from the outstanding view, the hotel is perfectly located for trips to the opera, ballet, sailing and scuba diving and spectator sports such as pro-hockey and pro-football as well as fabulous shopping at the Galleria Mall (which has a branch of Neiman Marcus). I’m loving the preppy Fort Lauderdale style – very J Crew/Lilly Pulitzer! Not sure if all the cute dresses I seem to have accrued will be of much use at home but I’m all about looking the part!
Tomorrow I’ve been invited aboard the hotel’s yacht with a fun group of New Yorkers here for a mini break – I’ll leave the heels behind this time!
