What are your plans for the Easter holidays?

Dear Melissa

Be patient. You won’t have long to wait now for the Small Luxury Hotels of the World™ Gold Coin Competition to begin. Just keep checking the SLH website.

What are your plans for the Easter holidays? I wondered if you were thinking of taking a luxury spa break in Europe or an Easter city/culture break; maybe contemplating choosing an adventure vacation from one of the Small Luxury Hotels of the World™ Experiences, or looking for suggestions for a children’s activity holiday during the Easter school holidays – I know you were talking of taking a luxury family break with your sister Claire.

If you look on the SLH website Home page, you’ll see a link to Easter Offers – there are a total of 68 Easter holiday special offers to choose from: you could spend time in one of many SLH luxury hotels in Italy, Greece or Portugal, a lovely time of the year to be there; or take an Easter luxury break in the UK, France or Germany (late-April is a particularly nice time to enjoy a spring break in an SLH boutique hotel).

Check each SLH Easter break special offer to see what extra little luxury is included too, such as complimentary champagne, chocolate Easter eggs, or Easter gift; there are complimentary upgrades or a free night’s accommodation; as well as Easter egg hunts for children and horse-drawn carriage rides for romantics.

Whatever you decide to do, have a Happy Easter!

My very first luxury short break in Ireland

Hi Paul

You asked if I could fit a trip to Ireland into my schedule. Well, no sooner said than done… I’m here in Ireland as I write – been here several days actually and just LOVING it. Everyone is so friendly and I’ve got a real taste for that smooth, creamy, black national Irish drink already – it is so much tastier in Ireland for some inexplicable reason.

Would you believe with all the gallivanting I have done, that this is my first visit – my very first luxury short break in Ireland, but definitely not my last. Of course, I had to stay in Dublin’s fair city so chose one of the Small Luxury Hotels of the World boutique hotels right in the centre of Dublin. I made a great choice in Brooks Hotel in Dublin – it’s a gem, tucked away in a quiet street, and just a two-minute walk from upmarket shopping in Grafton Street… so you will know only too well how I enjoyed it! Loved the street musicians too – adds atmosphere to a place doesn’t it?

I’m following a self-drive scenic route in Ireland, staying at four different SLH luxury hotels in Ireland. Second stop was to Mount Juliet – an absolutely FAB 18th century Georgian mansion in County Kilkenny; it just has to be Ireland’s best sporting estate. Weather has been cold and crisp so I’ve been horse riding (great!) and played a round of golf on their championship course (the first golf course in Ireland I have ever played). Sadly my golf was not as pretty as the course though!!  I’ll have to take a summer break in Ireland too and return to this sporting boutique hotel… there’s archery, fishing, clay pigeon shooting, high-tech gym, and goodness knows what else to do.

Mount Juliet: my room at the magnificent country estate, in the heart of County Kilkenny

It’s an early start for me this morning: next stop on my Irish road tour is to Park Hotel Kenmare, in County Kerry, a rather majestic mansion with stunning views of Kenmare Bay. I hear the Spa is AMAZING, and there’s yoga, Pilates and Tai Chi – this is a wellbeing and spa break in Ireland I’m really looking forward to… so I might well continue the spa pampering at The Lodge at Doonbeg Golf Club. There’s one of the best golf courses in Ireland there (Greg Norman designed) but I’m planning on making it a coastal walking holiday along Ireland’s gorgeous west coast. Can’t wait! It’s a great base for fishing holidays in Ireland too, with off-shore fishing and fly-fishing (must tell my Father).

In the Small Luxury Hotels of the World gorgeous coffee-table Directory there’s another suggested itinerary for a holiday in Ireland. Have you seen it? It’s on page 126 and called “Falling for the Emerald Isle”. And guess what? I’ve definitely fallen for Ireland – hook, line and sinker.

Must fly!

Cheers Melissa

Small Luxury Hotels of the World in Ireland

Hi Melissa,

It sounds as though you’ve been having a lot of fun with your latest short breaks in Small Luxury Hotels of the World™ properties in the UK – a luxury spa break in one SLH boutique hotel in the Cotswolds, and an activities break in a different luxury country house hotel in Hampshire. Very nice for some!

How would you like to go to Ireland? As the SLH official ‘Adventurer’ I wondered if you could check out an itinerary that SLH has put together. You’ll have to decide whether you want to go to Ireland before St Patrick’s Day on 17 March, or for it and join in the celebrations – parades, ‘wearing of the green’, and plenty of Irish music and singing.

Small Luxury Hotels of the World™ have several boutique hotels in Ireland, so let me know if you can fit this trip in.
